Softaken Releases Free Online Tool for Splitting PDF Files into Separate Documents

Softaken Software has just released a new tool that helps users split a single PDF into multiple separate files. It allows users to break apart large documents without needing to use desktop software or third-party upload sites. The tool is now live at softaken.com/online/split-pdf.

Splitting a PDF sounds like a small task but it’s one people run into constantly — pulling invoices out of a batch, separating chapters from a book, breaking down a scanned bundle of documents to its original pieces. Most tools built for this send the entire file to a remote server first before returning anything, adding a wait and, for many documents, an unwelcome step of exposing content to a system outside the user’s control.

Softaken’s method handles the entire process within the browser. Users upload a PDF and choose between two splitting modes: split every page into its own separate PDF or define custom page ranges — for example, “1-3, 5, 7-10” — to create exactly the groupings they need. The tool then creates the resulting files locally, without ever sending the document anywhere. When a split produces more than one file, they are all bundled into a single ZIP file for easy download.

Key features include
• Two split modes: one file per page or custom page ranges separated by commas.
• All locally processed – no files uploaded to third-party servers
• Automatic ZIP packaging of several output files when a split occurs
• Pages that are copied directly from the source file and not unnecessarily recompressed
• No account, sign up or software installation required
• Original PDF remains completely unchanged

“Splitting a PDF is something people need to do on the fly, in the middle of something else — pulling one section out to send along, or breaking a big file up into smaller pieces,” said a Softaken product representative.

“The idea was to be able to do that without having to do any further steps, and without the file ever having to leave the device that it’s on.

Since the split is performed solely in-browser, the quality of the output is maintained from the original document, rather than being recompressed during operation. For users who need to work with very large PDFs or more sophisticated split-and-merge workflows, Softaken's desktop PDF software provides more control over how files are split and recombined.

The release is one of a number of free PDF utilities Softaken has released in recent weeks, which also include tools to delete pages, reverse page order, number pages and convert PDFs into images. All tools follow the same basic approach: process files locally, no need to create an account and keep the tools free to use.
